How to Pray – Do you know that God calls us to pray for one another? But how can we pray if we do not know how do we do it? Over the next 16 weeks, we will discuss prayer and its different ways we pray to the Lord for our requests and needs.
If you hover or click on a bible reference, a small popout window will appear from BibleGateway to show you the text.

Whether in our marriage, health, physical, work, we need some time of healing. Just like Abraham prayed for the King Abimelek, God calls us to pray for one another. There are specific versus that we read in our home every day to our kids and they love listening! Let’s spend the next 16 weeks learning how we ought to pray.
What is prayer? – Prayer means to exchange wishes (Strong’s Concordance). As a young child, you know how this worked when you asked for things…those were prayers. Prayers do not have to be spoken, then either. In the same vein, prayer is exchanging wishes with our Lord for praise, requests, needs for ourselves or others. In a simple form, Prayer is talking to the Lord.
Praying for one another intentionally – Genesis 20:17 – In this passage, there was a trouble that King Abimelek had brought upon himself leading to everyone in his house not being able to get pregnant. Abraham felt the need was great and spoke his wishes to the Lord and the Lord heard him! We are also called for the same. Whether it is for marriage, health, physical, or work, we can bring our wishes to the Lord for Him to bring it about.
Application
When we were children, we would mimic what we heard and saw until we became masters of the skill. We will learn how to pray in three steps: Mimic, interpret, and make personal.
Mimic: When you read Genesis 20:17 again, try inserting the name of the person or people you wish to ask the Lord on their behalf.
Interpret: After inserting their name, try to read the same but now change it to the request you wish to ask the Lord. You might say something like “And Abraham prayed for Suzanita and her house, for the Lord had closed fast her womb.” Notice now we are more specific in our request.
Make Personal: Finally, now pray to the Lord for Suzanita more specifically: “Lord, I pray for Suzanita and her house that her womb would be fertile….for you have closed fast her womb…”. Only insert the reasons this may be if you actually know it.
You did it! You learned to pray with the Scripture, ask the Lord for something, and have made your wishes personal on your own.
